Game of Thrones star trades in Ramsay Bolton for Hitler role
From Ramsey Bolton to Adolf Hitler.
As revealed this week, actor Iwan Rheon, who played the dastardly Game of Thrones villain on the HBO fantasy series, is set to star as Hitler in an installment of Sky Arts’ new series Urban Myths. Rheon will be joined by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, who is playing Hitler’s Friend.
Based on the teaser, Rheon’s portrayal of the Nazi leader is focused on his failed pursuits at becoming a painter. “I will introduce myself as Adolf Hitler, academic painter,” Rheon declares in the short clip. The actor was killed off during the last season of Game of Thrones.
The teaser for the eight-episode series, which stages rumored tales about celebrities, encountered some backlash this week because it also featured footage of Joseph Fiennes’ portrayal of the late Michael Jackson in an episode that tells the story of the time Jackson shared a car with Elizabeth Taylor (Stockard Channing) and Marlon Brandon (Brian Cox) as they left New York after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. After receiving complaints from the Jackson family, who slammed Fiennes’ “insulting” portrayal, Sky Arts announced Friday that it will not air the controversial episode.
“We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series,” the network tweeted from its official account. “This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offense. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.”
