Billy Joel stopped releasing new pop music after 1993, but the songs he made before that have stood the test of time; many of the hits have become standards of the form. When Joel stopped by The Late Show on Tuesday night, host Stephen Colbert actually asked him to rank his favorites from his own discography — or, in other words, if Billy Joel were at a Billy Joel concert, what songs would he want Billy Joel to play?

“I actually think about that on when I’m stage — what would I want to see me do?” Joel said. “I tend to like the album tracks, not the ones that are the hit singles.”

With that in mind, Joel started with “Vienna,” which Colbert admitted was probably his own favorite Billy Joel song. After that, Joel also named “And So It Goes,” “You May Be Right,” “She’s Right On Time,” and finally, “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.”
