Hearing a show described as “excruciating,” “harrowing,” and “painful” usually wouldn’t bode well for its chances at a positive critique, but Black Mirror isn’t your typical show.
In this clip from Bingeworthy, hosts Touré and Jessica Shaw tackle the sci-fi anthology series that “gives you a different perspective on your reality,” says Touré. Both hosts pile on the praise for the show, complimenting the excellent writing and the way it encourages viewers to think deeply about the world they think they know.
“What they show really reflects what is our current culture,” says Shaw. “I mean, ‘Nosedive’ is an excruciating episode to watch; Bryce Dallas Howard is perfect in that episode. To watch that moment where literally every moment is being evaluated on their version of social media; it’s painful to watch and yet so brilliantly portrayed.”
