As the year comes to a close and everyone shares their Top 10 lists, be it movies, books, or even TV shows, Bingeworthy hosts Jessica Shaw and Touré are doing the same.
Though Shaw may have her favorites — among them, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, Michaela Cole’s Chewing Gum, and Issa Rae’s Insecure — her top pick for this year is none other than the FX series Better Things, created by Pamela Adlon.
“It’s moving at times. It’s always hilarious. It tells a story about a woman over 40 that is never told on television,” says Shaw of the show, which follows Adlon’s single mother character as she raises three kids while dealing with issues like dating, sex, race, and work. “I just thought it was so smart. It surprised me every week with its brilliance.”
Shaw’s enthusiasm surprises her co-host. “I’m surprised this is your No. 1, even above Game of Thrones,” says Touré in the video above, before comparing it to Louie, of which Adlon is an executive producer. “Except here, the main character is a really nice person. A really good person deep down.”
However, as it turns out, Touré has not finished the show’s full season. “The episodes I watched, I loved.”
