Krypton taps Cameron Cuffe as Superman's grandfather
Krypton has found its lead: British actor Cameron Cuffe has been tapped to play Seg-El in Syfy’s new drama pilot, EW has learned.
The project is set two generations before the destruction of the Man of Steel’s home planet, following Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
Destined to be the ancestor of Jor-El (future father of Superman) and Kal-El (the future Superman), Seg-El is the scion of the once prosperous El family and is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical; he is now living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank.
Cuff, who most recently appeared in Florence Foster Jenkins, is the first to be cast in the project from David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg. Goyer will executive-produce with Damian Kindler and Colm McCarthy, who helmed the pilot.
Produced by Phantom Four in association with Warner Horizon Television, Krypton is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.
