Zac Efron is extremely wicked and shockingly dreamy as Ted Bundy in the new trailer for Netflix’s dramatization of the serial killer’s infamous trial.
Conflicting feelings arise when audiences see someone as objectively attractive as the Baywatch super-stud in the role of a killer, but that seems to be what director Joe Berlinger is playing with here. In Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Ted performs such unspeakable acts, but in the public’s eye, “He’s also really dreamy,” one commenter remarks.
That’s part of Ted’s allure. He quips to the delight of his court room audience, giggling in the face of his charm, “I’m disguised as an attorney today.”
Much has been made of Efron’s transformation into Ted, but the film is told through the eyes of Lilly Collins’ Elizabeth Kloepfer, Ted’s longtime girlfriend who was in such deep denial of his crimes until she inevitably turned him in. As she says, through the jail house’s glass partition, for better or worse, “It’s only gonna end with the truth.”
The two stars are surrounded by a cast that includes John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Kaya Scodelario, Jeffrey Donovan, Haley Joel Osment, Angela Sarafyan, Dylan Baker, Brian Geraghty, Terry Kinney, James Hetfield, and Grace Victoria Cox.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will premiere on Netflix this May 3.
