Broadway may be a long way from Rodeo Drive, but Pretty Woman: The Musical has officially set its opening date on the Great White Way.

Following its spring 2018 world premiere at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre, the musical will debut on Broadway over the summer at the Nederlander Theatre. Performances begin Friday, July 20, with an official opening night set for Thursday, Aug. 16.

Based on the 1990 Garry Marshall film of the same name, the stage adaptation features a book co-written by Marshall and the film’s screenwriter J.F. Lawton. Grammy-winning artist Bryan Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance have provided the original music and lyrics. Jerry Mitchell will direct.

As previously announced, the musical will star Samantha Barks (Eponine in the film adaptation of Les Miserables) in Julia Roberts’ star-making role as Vivian. Tony Award winner Steve Kazee (Once) will star opposite Barks in the Richard Gere role as Edward. The musical also features Orfeh, Eric Anderson, Jason Danieley, and Kingsley Leggs.

The musical marks the latest screen-to-stage adaptation following the likes of Groundhog’s Day, Anastasia, and more.
