The Greatest City in the World! (West Coast Edition)

In New York, you can be a new man, but in Los Angeles, you can sing a medley of songs all about the Sunshine State.

In advance of Wednesday’s opening night performance of Hamilton at the Hollywood Pantages Theater, the touring company celebrated with a one-day-only very special #Ham4Ham.

#Ham4Ham, a daily afternoon performance from members of the Hamilton cast outside the theater doors, became a tradition in New York City as a way of entertaining those waiting for the results of the ticket lottery. With the launch of the Hamilton app and the first Los Angeles ticket lottery, the Hamilton touring cast greeted fans with an extra special California-themed #Ham4Ham.

The original Alexander Hamilton himself and mastermind behind the Broadway phenomenon, Lin-Manuel Miranda, was on-hand to kick off proceedings. Much earlier in the day, he surprised early birds waiting on Hollywood Boulevard for the ticket lottery.

Later in the afternoon, Miranda was met by an overflowing street full of fans. “I did tell them they might have to close down the streets. They have closed down the street,” Miranda said. “Thank you all for coming.”

He was joined on stage by Hamilton music director Alex Lacamoire playing the melodica, the same instrument used for accompaniment in New York outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Members of the Hamilton touring cast, including Joshua Henry and Rory O’Malley, treated the crowd to a medley of California-themed songs, including “California Love,” Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” The Beach Boys’ “California Girls,” The Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and “California Dreamin’.”

Following the #Ham4Ham performance, Tony winner and original Lafayette/Jefferson Daveed Diggs made an appearance to announce the first name in the Los Angeles tour lottery.

The reunion of original Hamilton members continued off stage. Miranda shared a tweet with the caption, “Happy reunions abound!” featuring a photo of him with Diggs and Oskar Eustis, the Artistic Director of the Public Theater where Hamilton debuted Off-Broadway.
