On Wednesday morning, the nominations for the 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced. Among the acclaimed talent was Bryce Dallas Howard, who earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for her haunting performance on Black Mirror.
Her father, actor and filmmaker Ron Howard, took to social media to share his excitement and pride at the nomination news.
“Congrats Daughter! @BryceDHoward for your #sagawards nomination for #BlackMirror such great work & You r in amazing company. Yep, I’m proud,” he wrote on Twitter. The actor has previously been nominated for a SAG award himself for his work on Arrested Development.
In the premiere episode of the recent season of Black Mirror on Netflix, Bryce Dallas Howard plays Lacie, an upbeat young woman determined to improve her score in a society that pretty much resembles living within the Yelp app: everything is based on ratings. The inevitable breakdown Lacie suffers when she can’t maintain her high scores gave Howard the chance to show off her acting chops and likely went a long way to earning her her SAG Award nomination.
“To be nominated for this particular award by my peers is heartening and meaningful,” she said in a statement. “I’m a little bit in shock, but utterly stoked. When I woke up to the news, I called my husband, then my parents, and then told my kids (who did not care). Now I’m just looking at this list of brilliant women, many of whom I’ve accosted with praise at the hair salon, and looking forward to a great night. What an honor. This is going to be a blast!”
The 23rd annual SAG Awards will be handed out on Sunday, Jan. 29. The ceremony airs live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Check out the full list of nominees here.
