Few people seemed to have as much fun with their award season campaign this year as Richard E. Grant, who has exuded exuberance ever since getting officially nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Can You Ever Forgive Me? Though Grant ultimately lost the award to Green Book‘s Mahershala Ali on Sunday night, he did get a happy ending in his own way: Grant finally met Barbra Streisand face-to-face.

“I just met her here tonight. Better than any nomination I could ever wish for! The best!” Grant told EW about meeting Streisand at the Governor’s Ball after the show.

Though their meeting took place after the Oscars, Grant’s enthusiasm for Streisand was evident even in the telecast. When she took the stage to introduce Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, the actor could be seen saying “wow” in the audience.

Grant and Streisand also had a very cute interaction earlier last month, when he took a selfie outside her home and shared a fan letter he wrote her when he was 14. Streisand’s reply praising Can You Ever Forgive Me? made him, in his own words, “crinkle-faced” with tears. At long last, they’ve finally met face to face.
