Here are the history-making wins from the 2019 Oscars

- A record number of women took home awards tonight: 15 total, from Best Original Song to Best Production Design
- Best Supporting Actress winner Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) is one of only three black actresses who’ve won accolades at the Oscars and the Emmys.
- Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) is the first director to win Best Cinematography for his or her own film.
- Green Book star Mahershala Ali becomes the first black actor to win two Best Supporting Actor Oscars.
- Best Costume Design champion Ruth E. Carter makes history as the first black woman to win in the category.
- Black Panther’s Hannah Beachler is the first black woman to win for Best Production Design .
- Carter’s victory also marks the first Oscar win for Marvel Studios; Beachler’s is the second.
- Domee Shi and Becky Neiman-Cobb are the first pair of women to win Best Animated Short.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the first victory for Sony in the Animated Feature category.
- Spike Lee wins his first competitive Oscar for writing BlacKkKlansman‘s screenplay.
- Best Actor champion Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), King, and Ali’s victories collectively mark the first time a majority of a single Oscar ceremony’s acting winners are people of color.
- The 2019 Oscars breaks the record for most female winners during a single telecast, with Olivia Colman’s Best Actress upset over Glenn Close tallying the evening’s 15th victory for women.
- The ceremony also sees the most number of black winners in history, with seven overall.
