Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph's Oscars moment sparks calls for buddy flick, 2020 run
The stars of Girls Trip and Bridesmaids came out to present the awards for Best Documentary Short Subject and Live Action Short Film. With jokes about wearing high heels all awards season, #OscarsSoWhite, and “white people with clipboards,” they had the entire audience and many watching at home in stitches.
“A few years ago, people were saying that Oscars were so white and since then some real progress has been made,” Rudolph began.
“But when we came out together, we know some of you were thinking, ‘Are the Oscars too black now?’” Haddish continued.
“But we just want to say, don’t worry. There are so many more white people to come tonight,” Rudolph said.
“A @TiffanyHaddish – Meryl Streep mother/daughter comedy now must be made. Immediately,” Beauty and the Beast actor Josh Gad tweeted, noting Haddish’s shoutout to Streep.
On the red carpet, the comedian was spotted hopping over the rope barrier to meet the Oscar winner, and she then mentioned during her on-stage bit, “I want you to be my mamma one day. Let’s get this money, girl.”
“Queen @TiffanyHaddish should host the #Oscars one day! Retweet if you agree! Let’s get her some money!” Tyra Banks tweeted, echoing a similar response across the web.
Others called for the comic duo to run against President Donald Trump for the White House in 2020, host the Golden Globes, or even star in a reboot of Thelma and Louise.
