Alexandre Desplat wins Best Score at Oscars for The Shape of Water
The Shape of Water continues to take home awards for the sound of its music. After already winning a Golden Globe and BAFTA in the same category, the film won the Oscar for Best Original Score at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Alexandre Desplat took home the Oscar for his composing work.
Desplat has been making the rounds this awards season, and he’s already a highly decorated composer, having previously been nominated for an Oscar eight times. He won in 2015 for his score for The Grand Budapest Hotel, beating out himself in the same category for his work on The Imitation Game. Desplat frequently scores prestigious films, having worked on everything from Argo to The King’s Speech to The Danish Girl in recent years.
He beat out fellow nominees Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk), Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread), John Williams (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and Carter Burwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
