Disney California Adventure’s spooky elevator attraction is going out of service in the new year.

The theme park has announced the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride will close its doors for good Jan. 2, at which point it will begin its transformation into the Guardians of the Galaxy-themed diversion Mission: Breakout.

As the tower counts down its final days, Disney will offer a series of promotions, beginning with one called Late Check-Out: From Sept. 9 through Oct. 31, visitors will be able to experience the ride in complete darkness. There will also be special merchandise, concessions, and musical performances.

Mission: Breakout was announced at Comic-Con in July and will take its cues from Marvel’s motley crew of space-faring heroes. The new ride, which you can see more of in the video above, is scheduled to open next summer, as is the movie’s sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
