American Country Music Awards

Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like attending an awards show, but for Kelly Clarkson, her highlight at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards was being mistaken for a seat filler.

One might think chart-topping artist Clarkson would be instantly recognizable to anyone. After all, in addition to her numerous hit songs and her origin story as the winner of the first season of American Idol, Clarkson is a mentor on NBC’s The Voice and hosted the Billboard Music Awards. But she’s not well-known to everyone, including some of the production staff at the 2019 ACMs — despite the fact that she even performed twice during the awards show on Sunday night.

Clarkson tweeted about the seating mix-up late Sunday night, writing, “The greatest thing by far that happened to me tonight was being asked to move because some guy thought I was a seat filler at the ACM’s tonight #CantWinEmAll,” she said in the tweet, which included a GIF of Nathan Fillion on Castle attempting to correct someone. “Literally, it made my night because he was so serious, and I just politely said no hahaha!!”

The moment is particularly perplexing given that Clarkson performed alongside the night’s big winners Dan + Shay, who took home three awards and performed their nominated song “Keeping Score” with her. She also took to the stage opposite Jason Aldean.

It appears whoever was responsible for the ACM seating was not Mr. Know It All.
