Seo Minwoo, a member of K-pop boyband 100%, was found dead at his home in Gangnam, Seoul on March 25.
According to a statement from the band’s label, TOP Media, the 33-year old singer died after suffering cardiac arrest, though no official cause of death has been released as of yet.
“His family, the 100% members, and the TOP Media artists and staff members are all grief-stricken and in mourning from the unexpected, sad news,” TOP Media wrote in Korean on its website, while Minwoo’s former bandmate Changbum posted a tribute on Instagram. “I hope you are comfortable in the sky. I want you to be a bright star and shine on this world,” he captioned a photo of the late singer.
The pop group, which has tour dates scheduled for April 12 and 30 in Japan, first hit the scene in 2012. Prior to his musical debut, Minwoo had enjoyed an acting career. Fans of the pop star also shared their heartfelt messages on social media, showing their admiration and heartbreak.
Minwoo’s sudden death is the second to shake the Korean pop music scene within a few months. Last December, Kim Jong-hyun, (also known by his stage name Jonghyun of SHINee) was found dead in his apartment at just 27 years old with police telling the BBC Korean Service that suicide was the possible cause of death.
