Dua Lipa can thank those “New Rules” for a burgeoning career.

Since the British singer-songwriter and model released her self-titled debut album in June, she’s been finding her name on the charts and garnering new fans across the pond. Her fifth single, “Blow Your Mind,” became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2016, and the upbeat tune also sat atop the Dance Club Songs chart in January.

Lipa, 22, is responsible for most of her melodies and lyrics — she’s the rare pop star who writes her own songs — but she got an assist from Lana Del Rey while penning her first jam, “New Love.”

Interestingly enough, Lipa actually made a name for herself singing covers on YouTube, and she’s also known for providing the infectious hook on DJ Martin Garrix’s hit “Scared to Be Lonely.”

Something tells us this is only the beginning for Lipa. To find out more about her, watch The Upbeat, a new video series presented by Citi, above.
