With his new Denzel Washington ink, Drake has proven once again that he is the ultimate stan.
Having someone’s face permanently inked on his body isn’t unusual — the Canadian rapper has been known for getting tattoos of those close to him, like the one of his late uncle and grandmother on his upper back. And, yes, the rapper has tons of great tattoos — from the OVO owl to a Drakkar Noir bottle (which, if you didn’t know, is Drizzy’s signature scent) — but none of those really live up to the surprise of seeing a celebrity’s face adorn him. Thanks to Toronto-based artist Inal Bersekov, everyone can get a close-up of Drake’s unique designs.
1. Denzel Washington
Unveiled this past weekend on Bersekov’s Instagram, the rapper’s latest tattoo is a portrait of the acting legend as jazz musician Bleek Gilliam from Spike Lee’s 1990 film Mo’ Better Blues. “Mo’ better blues’ first session on my brother @champagnepapi,” Bersekov wrote, “thanks as usual for your trust.”
Drake’s affection for Aaliyah isn’t a secret: He was once tapped to produce a posthumous album of the late, great R&B singer’s music alongside 40, a.k.a Noah Shebib. That project was later denounced by Aaliyah’s family and the album was scrapped, but this tattoo — spotted as early as 2011 — remains as a testament to his love.
3. Lil Wayne
Earlier this summer, the internet was shook with the news that Drake got a tattoo of the “A Milli” rapper. This one isn’t that surprising, as Lil Wayne signed a young, post-Degrassi Drake to Young Money back in 2009.
Bersekov posted the initial snap of Drake’s extended Sade tattoo on Instagram back in June. If the caption is any indication, there’s definitely going to be more of the “Smooth Operator” singer on Drake in the future, and that’s not a bad thing; Sade is absolutely stunning, and so is Bersekov’s artwork. Like Bersekov says: “More life 🌺 More tattoos 💉.”
5. Rihanna (Maybe)
Okay, so. This one is only rumored because every shot of the tattoo is unclear and no one knows if it’s Rihanna or not. There’s even some speculation in the corners of the internet that the tattoo is of actress and Mike Tyson’s ex-wife Robin Givens (check out this side-by-side comparison and see for yourself). But consider Drake’s public declaration of undying love for Rihanna on the MTV Video Music Awards stage in 2016 and their collaboration on 2010’s “What’s My Name?” when trying to solve this mystery.
