Woozy country rocker Nikki Lane returned with her stellar third LP, Highway Queen, earlier this year, and today, EW is thrilled to premiere the heartwarming video for standout track “Send the Sun.”
“Working on ‘Send the Sun’ was a nice change from my previous videos,” Lane tells EW via email. “Typically I’ve spent the money doing the most outlandish thing we can think of. This song was different though. It showed a softer me, and we all wanted to showcase this.”
As for where the clip’s throwback aesthetic comes from, Lane credits her Highway Queen collaborator and romantic partner, Jonathan Tyler. “[He] began pulling up references of old videos and we settled on a scene from Pete Drake’s ‘Forever’… What took place was a fun and organic event. We built the set by hand in an old Masonic Temple in Asheville, North Carolina, and then we all hopped into costume. [It’s] maybe my favorite video we’ve made yet, and a perfect match for my favorite song.”
“Send the Sun” was directed by Stephen Kinigopoulos and Alexa King. It was produced by Running Bear Films’ cinematographer Levi Magyar.
