Mahershala Ali boxes shirtless in new JAY-Z video 'Adnis'
Mahershala Ali is everywhere right now. The Oscar-winner is on the cover of this month's GQ. He's confirmed for True Detective season 3. And now, he's in JAY-Z's new music video for "Adnis" from his latest album, 4:44. The song is one of the three bonus tracks from the album, the first of which, "We Family," featured JAY-Z's daughter Blue Ivy rapping.
In the video, Ali practices his boxing in a dramatically lit, empty room as JAY-Z raps, "Uh, letter to my dad that I never wrote/ Speeches I prepared that I never spoke/ Words on a paper that I never read/ Proses never penned, they stayed in my head." The lyrics serve as an open letter to the rapper's late father, Adnis "AJ" Reeves, who died of liver failure in 2003.
4:44 also features a track called "Moonlight," inspired by the Oscar-winning film of the same name, which starred Ali in a role that earned him an Oscar for supporting actor.
