After Aaron Carter was arrested Saturday in Georgia for DUI and drug possession, he recounted the incident — and responded to the public’s criticism — in a new interview with ET.
Soon after news of the arrest broke, Aaron’s brother Nick tweeted “if u feel the need to reach for help, I am here.” On The Talk, Aisha Tyler said Aaron “seems like a typical addict.” In the ET interview, Carter refuted that he needs help or struggles with drug addiction.
“I don’t need help,” he said. “What I need is for people to understand that I’m human and that I make mistakes just like every other human in this world, but I would never risk my life or my girlfriend’s life.”
Carter frequently fields drug accusations on Twitter, where users allege that his thin frame is a result of meth use. “I will NOT continue to tolerate such lies about me regarding drug use with alleged meth, [heroin], crack,” Carter tweeted Monday. “It’s not funny!”
This past April, Carter explained he’s “so skinny” because he was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia at 19. “It’s a terrible stress condition that affects me having an appetite,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “Basically I have an eating disorder.”
He brought up the health condition in the ET interview, where he said, “It hurts real bad because people don’t know me, and I have no control over it, and this is the way I am. I have a medical condition. When I was 19 years old, I got an endoscopy done in Tennessee and I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. The doctor told me I have to keep stress out of my life, or else it’s gonna take a toll on me, and I can develop cancer.”
Carter also said he doesn’t drink alcohol “at all” and smokes marijuana for anxiety, which he also treats with Xanax. He also specified that he takes “Propranolol for high blood pressure medication” and was taking oxycodone for a jaw injury.
