Smith's iconic white Batsuit finally has its own theme song

Sometimes it seems like the only thing Jaden Smith loves more than capitalizing every word in a sentence is Batman. He wore a white Batman suit to both high school prom and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s wedding (later explaining to GQ that “I felt as though I needed to protect everyone there and needed to have the proper gear to do so”). That Batman suit is all over Smith’s latest music video, appropriately titled “Batman.”

The video begins with Smith as Bruce Wayne awakening in a sunny field and swearing for some reason. A Bat Signal-like spotlight in the sky appears to call him back to the city (where he keeps a copy of Frank Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry zine on his table). After changing into his white Bat-suit, Smith hops from place to place rapping things like “Batman, Batman, Batman, Joker just put me on acid.” He does take some breaks to stand and brood atop a city, much like Christian Bale’s Batman did in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. At one point, Smith manages to succinctly summarize Batman’s entire ethos: “Gotta save the day every single way, we don’t really got a choice.”

Smith, whose Twitter avatar currently features him as a child wearing a Batman shirt, originally tweeted back in April that “I Have 2 Videos Dropping In The Next Month” for the singles “Batman” and “Watch Me” from his upcoming album Syre. He also announced at the time that “I Will Be Dropping A K Pop Single In The Next 4 Months.” We’re still waiting on that second one.
