Phil Collins has been forced to postpone two concerts following a fall the singer took in his hotel room while getting up to go to the bathroom.
The star, 66, was rushed to the hospital with a sizable wound on his head.
Details of the accident were revealed in a message posted to the singer’s Facebook page early Thursday morning.
“Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk,” the statement explains. “He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair. He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.”
It’s expected Collins will make a full recovery — his concert in Cologne, Germany, on Sunday will “carry on,” according to the post, and the shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London have been rescheduled for late November.
“Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans,” the message continues. “He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return.”
