The 115th Congress has been fraught with controversy — but on Thursday, one congressman took a step back from the noxious political atmosphere. Representative Hakeem Jeffries, who represents portions of Brooklyn and Queens as the congressman from New York’s 8th district, read lyrics from the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 song “Juicy” on the House floor.

Jeffries recited the lines to honor the rap luminary and iconic Brooklynite on the 20th anniversary of his death. The “Juicy” lyrics chronicle Biggie’s personal rise and the region’s history.

“Biggie Smalls, Frank White, the king of New York,” Jeffries said afterward. “His words live on forever. […] His rags-to-riches life story is the classic embodiment of the American dream. Biggie Smalls is gone but he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Notorious B.I.G.. Where Brooklyn at?”
