Just days after Donald Trump’s inauguration, Chrisette Michele has released a new song in response to the criticism she received for agreeing to perform at the event. The song, titled “No Political Genius,” mirrors the statement that the singer released via Twitter last week, explaining her decision to perform.

The two-minute, spoken word track points out the controversy that followed her performance announcement as well as the criticism Michele received from Spike Lee, who claimed he was no longer considering using her song “Black Girl Magic” in his upcoming Netflix series, and Questlove, who tweeted he would pay the singer not to perform.

“I am the song Spike Lee won’t sing / I am the black voice inauguration bells ring,” she says. “I am the black sheep disguising the scared wolf / No, I am the black elephant in the red room scared shook / White House invites me, you call me their coon / I am the butterfly glowing from history’s cocoon / I can carry the mantle with God as my goon / He provides the life support, I’m dying singing his tune.”
