Legendary musician Paul McCartney has paid tribute to George Michael, writing that Michael’s “sweet soul music will live on even after his sudden death.”

Michael died on Sunday at age 53, leaving behind a legacy of pop hits.

“Having worked with him on a number of occasions his great talent always shone through and his self-deprecating sense of humor made the experience even more pleasurable,” McCartney wrote on his website.

McCartney and Michael collaborated on the 2006 song “Heal the Pain,” which appeared on Michael’s 2006 album Twenty Five.

McCartney is one of a number of famous celebrities to offer up remembrances of Michael, including Elton John, Madonna, Boy George, and Sam Smith.
