David Foster ‘politely declined’ invite for role in Donald Trump’s inauguration
Performer and composer David Foster 'politely declined' an invitation to participate in Donald Trump's inauguration, and will not be offering fellow artists.
Sixteen time Grammy-winning producer David Foster has worked with some of music’s greats — like Barbra Streisand, Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Christina Aguilera, and Céline Dion.
But despite reports, the 67-year-old won’t be calling on any of his friends to help wrangle up performances for President-elect Donald Trump‘s upcoming inauguration.
“I was invited to participate and I politely declined,” Foster told PEOPLE in a statement. “I have no idea where this story came from.”
The New York Post‘s Page Six reported Friday night that Foster would be playing a pivotal role in organizing the Jan. 20 event. But Foster firmly denied the news.
“Neither me nor my manager was ever contacted by Page Six or any other media outlet,” he said.
While Foster may not be involved, his longtime collaborator Andrea Bocelli has been tapped to participate.
The Italian tenor will perform alongside America’s Got Talent star Jackie Evancho on Inauguration Day, PEOPLE previously confirmed. Bocelli, 58, will sing at least one song with the 16-year-old star. It is unclear whether he will perform a solo.
Evancho announced that she would sing the national anthem at Trump’s inauguration during a Wednesday appearance on the Today show. She rose to fame in 2010 when she came in second place on the competition series — even meeting President-elect Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate shortly after her win and posing for a photo with him.
“What I’m mainly excited about is the audience,” she told PEOPLE. “I feel like it’s gonna be a big audience and I love big audiences.”
It won’t be the first time the teenager has flaunted her talents for a president. She sang “O Holy Night” at the National Christmas Tree Lighting hosted by President Barack Obama in 2010. Two years later, she performed for Obama again at the National Prayer Breakfast.
While Foster won’t be involved with Trump’s inauguration, he is involved with supermodel Christie Brinkley. The two were spotted Wednesday night on a dinner date at Ralph Lauren’s swanky restaurant The Polo Bar.
Also at the exclusive eatery that evening? Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. She was seen chatting with Brinkley, after dining with Lauren himself.
