Tom Hanks as Geppetto
Tom Hanks will reunite with his Forrest Gump and Cast Away director to play Pinocchio's "father" Geppetto, the kindly old man who creates the wooden marionette. Hanks first entered talks for the project in 2018, when Paddington's Paul King was still attached to direct.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will voice Pinocchio's conscience and iconic Disney mascot Jiminy Cricket. (However, it's currently unclear whether he'll perform Pinocchio's signature song "When You Wish Upon a Star," as Jiminy's original voice actor Cliff Edwards did in the 1940 film.) The Inception star previously collaborated with Zemeckis on the 2015 Philippe Petit biopic The Walk.

Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy
Cynthia Erivo will add to her expanding filmography with the role of the Blue Fairy, who brings Pinocchio to life and eventually makes him a real boy. Presumably, she'll bring her talented vocal pipes to the role as well; perhaps she'll be the one to perform "When You Wish Upon a Star."

Luke Evans as The Coachman
A returning player in the Disney live-action remake game (he played Gaston in 2017's Beauty and the Beast), Luke Evans will star as the sinister Coachman, one of the most terrifying villains in the Disney animated canon. (It's he who spirits Pinocchio away to Pleasure Island, where boys are turned into donkeys.)

Hi-diddle-dee-dee, it's Keegan-Michael Key! The Key & Peele star will voice the sly fox Honest John, another agent of temptation on Pinocchio's journey. H.J. also sings the iconic tune "An Actor's Life for Me" in the 1940 film.
