Like Aladdin in the 1992 version of the film, our updated hero (Mena Massoud) keeps his furry friend on his shoulder. His vest shows a little less skin with a shirt underneath, though.
See all of the similarities and differences between the two adaptations that we found in the new trailer for the upcoming Aladdin.
The Cave of Wonders
The new Cave of Wonders looks a bit more securely attached to a cliffside, but we don’t get a trendy earring.
Jafar showing Aladdin the cave
In the original film, Jafar led his “diamond in the rough” to the cave while disguised as a creepy old man. From the trailer, it looks like this time around, Jafar will still look like actor Marwan Kenzari. No complaints for more Hot Jafar!
When you touch something you’re not supposed to in the Cave of Wonders, disaster ensues. Aladdin deals with a bit of a lava situation (luckily there’s a flying carpet around to help).
Rub the lamp and conjure some mysterious blue smoke…
A friend like him
This new trailer gave us our first look at blue Will Smith as the genie! He shares the Robin Williams iteration’s high-pony and penchant for pointing.
Clear the way in the old bazaar
You’re gonna love this guy! Aladdin—er, we mean, Prince Ali always has a world-class menagerie, and that includes an elephant.
A princess and her tiger
What’s a princess without her pet tiger? Our new Raja looks a lot more realistic (and a little less cuddly) than Raja in cartoon form.
"Do you trust me?"
The first step to any romantic magic carpet ride is accepting it when someone holds out their hand to you.
