Aladdin goes live-action
Disney is taking fans on a magic carpet ride back to Agrabah. The studio’s live-action Aladdin remake will be released on May 24, 2019, and the cast is set for the real-life incarnations of Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie, and more. Keep clicking to see who’ll be starring in the Guy Ritchie-directed live-action musical.
Mena Massoud as Aladdin
Meet the street rat turned Prince Ali — the Egyptian-born, Canada-raised Massoud (Amazon’s Jack Ryan series) will star as the film’s titular hero, who finds a magic lamp and then, well, you know where this goes…
Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine
The Power Rangers movie’s Pink Ranger will swap that hue for blue when she takes on the role of Princess Jasmine, the headstrong royal who doesn’t want to be confined inside the palace walls.
Marwan Kenzari as Jafar
Kenzari, who has appeared in Ben-Hur and The Mummy — and was also seen in the ensemble of Murder on the Orient Express — will take on the role of Aladdin‘s bearded antagonist. (Next question: Who’ll voice his parrot partner in crime, Iago?)
Will Smith as Genie
Ten thousand years can give you such a crick in the neck, and Smith will find that out firsthand when he takes on the role of Aladdin’s blue-hued magical confidant, made so memorable in the animated film by Robin Williams.
Nasim Pedrad as Mara
The Saturday Night Live alumna has been cast as new character created for the film — Mara, Jasmine’s friend and handmaiden.
Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders
Magnussen (FX’s The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Into the Woods, Ingrid Goes West) is playing Prince Anders, another new character created for the live-action film.
