Richard Stanley‘s new horror film, the Nicolas Cage-starring Color Out of Space, is currently warping the minds of cinemagoers around the country. But what kind of movies does the filmmaker — whose credits also include the 1990 killer robot film Hardware — like to watch of an evening, when he’s not searching for castle-dwelling ghosts? The answer is a predictably weird collection of cinematic treats.

Stanley gives an indication of his film taste in the first installment of a web series called The Severin Cellar in which notable film-folk are invited to talk about (and grab copies of) titles from the catalog of cult movie specialists Severin Films. The director is a doubly appropriate candidate to kick off the series as he was the subject of the documentary Lost Soul — The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s The Island of Dr. Moreau, directed by Severin Films President David Gregory.
