It may be short, but Disney’s new Aladdin teaser for the live-action remake conjures up fresh footage with Will Smith’s Genie, Naomi Scott’s Princess Jasmine, Abu the monkey, and Mena Massoud’s titular street rat.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin recreates moments from the 1992 animated classic with some twists. The preview opens with a scene of Aladdin breaking into the palace disguised as a servant after his street chase with the guards.
Jasmine isn’t all that thrilled to see her new acquaintance walking about her home like he owns it, but he quips, “If you don’t have anything, you have to act like you own everything.”
From there, the teaser runs through snippets from various parts of the film: Jafar sending Aladdin into the Cave of Wonders to retrieve a mystical lamp, Aladdin awakening the Genie inside the artifact, Genie then performing the song “Friend Like Me,” some magical moments on a magic carpet, and a joke about the Genie’s top knot. It’s his “cherry on top.”
Marwan Kenzari (as Jafar), Navid Negahban (as the Sultan), Nasim Pedrad (as Jasmine’s friend Dalia), and Billy Magnussen (as new character Prince Anders) also star in Aladdin, which opens in theaters May 24.
