Movie Details

EW has confirmed that Conjuring director James Wan is producing a big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s classic 1975 vampire novel ‘Salem’s Lot through his Atomic Monster company. King’s novel concerns a writer named Ben Mears who discovers that the town of Jerusalem’s Lot has become the new home of an ancient vampire. The script is being written by Gary Dauberman, who is an executive producer on the project. Dauberman’s previous writing credits include the 2017 King adaptation It and that film’s upcoming sequel. Dauberman is also the writer and director of the Wan-produced Conjuring universe spin-off movie Annabelle Comes Home (out June 28).

Dauberman discussed his love for King with EW in 2017. “You know, you have Christopher Pike, you have R.L. Stine, and then you graduate to Stephen King,” said the writer. “He’s like the gateway drug in terms of the adult horror world.”

The novel was previously adapted into a still-much-loved 1979 miniseries which starred David Soul and was directed by the late Tobe Hooper (Texas Chain Saw Massacre). The series inspired a sequel, 1987’s Larry Cohen-directed Return to Salem’s Lot. A second miniseries adaptation starring Rob Lowe, Andre Braugher, and Donald Sutherland was broadcast on TNT in 2004.

According to The Wrap, which previously reported the news about the Wan adaptation, the new version of ‘Salem’s Lot is a New Line project which will also be produced by Roy Lee and Mark Wolper.
