Lars Klevberg had a very specific vision when he was attempting to get the job of directing the upcoming Child’s Play remake (out June 21). According to the filmmaker, “When I pitched the movie for the studio and the producers, I told them it’s E.T. on acid, and they accepted that.”
The revelation comes via a “Pop-Up” version of the most recent Child’s Play trailer. In the course of the trailer, Klevberg also estimates that “almost 80 percent of Chucky in this movie is one with animatronics” and that Mark Hamill, who voices the killer doll in the film, watched all the original movies in the Child’s Play series in preparation.
The new Child’s Play stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son, Andy (Gabriel Bateman), a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry costars.
