Kelly Clarkson and Pitbull are getting ugly. The two musicians took the stage at STX Entertainment’s presentation at CinemaCon on Tuesday, teasing a new look at their upcoming animated film UglyDolls.
As the two singers prepared to present some footage, Clarkson told the audience that she had forgotten to put on deodorant so backstage, she borrowed some of Pitbull’s cologne. As a delighted Pitbull put it: “She put Pitbull on her pits!”
Clarkson and Pitbull both voice two of the film’s titular ugly dolls, imperfect felt creations who dream of one day finding their home with a child of their own.
The audience got a sneak peek of three of the film’s new songs: a cheery intro song featuring Clarkson, Pitbull, and Blake Shelton; a snotty number called “The Ugly Truth,” sung by Nick Jonas as a perfect, Ken-like doll; and an empowering anthem called “Unbreakable,” sung by Clarkson and Janelle Monae.
Clarkson then took the stage to perform her solo track “Broken and Beautiful,” explaining that she wanted to star in UglyDolls because of the film’s message of acceptance and empowerment.
“It’s a very hard time to be a kid,” Clarkson told the audience. “Being a kid was already hard before social media, but everything’s under a magnifying glass and everyone expects perfection.”
UglyDolls opens May 3.
