The 49-year-old Hollywood icon shared a steamy photo of herself on the set of the Lorene Scafaria-directed film Sunday morning, showing off her chiseled body in a hot pink bikini and sky-high heels as she stepped into character as the ringleader of a band of ex-strippers plotting revenge against their wealthy clients.
“I’m a hustler baby… I just want you to know,” Lopez captioned the photo, going on to reveal her character’s name: “#Ramona on fire…. On set and in character.”
On Saturday, makeup artist Scott Barnes — who previously worked with Lopez on movies like El Cantante, The Back-Up Plan, and her 2018 hit Second Act — also posted a snapshot of Lopez wearing the same outfit topped off with a brown fur coat.
Lopez and Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu co-lead the STX film’s robust ensemble cast, which also includes real-life stripper-turned-multi-platinum-recording-artist Cardi B, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Mercedes Ruehl, while Mette Towley (future star of the Cats movie adaptation) and Transparent actress Trace Lysette are also in negotiations to board the film.
Scafaria — whose work includes writing Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and directing Seeking a Friend for the End of the World — adapted her script for Hustlers from Jessica Pressler’s 2015 New York magazine article “The Hustlers at Scores,” which charts a real-life group of ex-strip club employees who unite to scam their Wall Street clients out of thousands of dollars. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short) will produce the project alongside Lopez and her Second Act producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.
“The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture,” Scafaria said of the project last year. “Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world.”
“There is no other actor who could embody this raw and dynamic character with such complexity, humanity and intelligence,” Scafaria continued of Lopez’s casting. “It’s always been her. She’s f—ing Jennifer Lopez.”
A release date for Hustlers has yet to be announced. For now, check out the full-length character shot Lopez posted on her Instagram Story below.
