STX announced Tuesday that Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, and Mercedes Ruehl have all joined the film. Inspired by a 2016 New York Magazine article, Hustlers centers on a group of former strip club employees who team up to take down their wealthy, Wall Street clients, scamming them out of thousands of dollars in the process. (The film marks Cardi’s big-screen debut, and it’s a fitting project: The singer has been very open about how she worked as a stripper in New York before breaking big with her music career.)
Mette Towley (who’ll star in the upcoming Cats movie) and Transparent’s Trace Lysette are also in negotiations to come aboard.
Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World) is writing and directing Hustlers, and the film will start shooting March 22 in New York.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” Scafaria said in a statement. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast and can’t wait to start filming at the end of the week.”
