It looks like horror fans will get their first proper look at the killer doll in the new Child’s Play remake this Friday. That news arrived courtesy of a just-released teaser which finds Animal House actor Tim Matheson playing the founder of a fictitious company.
“Hello, friends,” says Matheson in the teaser. “My name is Henry Kaslan, founder of the Kaslan corporation. At Kaslan, we take great pride in our unwavering focus on building revolutionary technology to create a positive impact. We set out to develop the greatest and most interactive toy on the market, but in doing so, we created something far more special. Every child is important to us, and every child deserves a companion, a friend, that will never let you down. It’s my great honor to introduce you to out most innovative product to date. Buddi. He’s more than a toy, he’s your best friend.”
The teaser concludes by announcing that the new product’s “global launch” will take place Feb. 8.
Directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) and from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith based on the original 1988 movie, the new Child’s Play follows a mother who gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke. Child’s Play is produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who oversaw last year’s remake of It.
“I was just 12-year-old when the ’88 movie came out,” Grahame-Smith told EW last year. “It scared the hell out of me. I watched it again and again. It’s a special movie for me.”
Child’s Play will be released in theaters nationwide, June 21. Watch that teaser above.
