Ryan Reynolds is revisiting his rom-com roots, though this one has more of an action-comedy edge to go along with his Deadpool-inspired public image.

The actor will star in and produce Shotgun Wedding, from Pitch Perfect and Sisters director Jason Moore. The film is based on an original pitch by writer Mark Hammer (Two Night Stand, Skins) and New Girl screenwriter Liz Meriwether will collaborate on the script.

“I haven’t done a romantic comedy since The Proposal but I just fell in love with Shotgun Wedding,” Reynolds said in a statement. “It’s so refreshing and surprising. I can’t wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave and the great team at Lionsgate.”

Shotgun Wedding, according to the official logline, “tells the hilarious, adrenaline-fueled story of a couple whose extravagant destination wedding is taken over by criminals. In the process of saving their families, they rediscover why they wanted to get married in the first place.”

In his own statement, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane said the film will “showcase” Reynolds’ “incredibly versatile talents,” making note of “Ryan’s trademark wit and action chops.”

Shotgun Wedding marks a return of Reynolds to Lionsgate, which released The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and a reunion with Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman at Mandeville Films, which produced The Proposal.

In addition to the talked-about but not-yet-greenlit Deadpool 3, Reynolds’ upcoming slate includes Michael Bay’s 6 Underground and voicing Detective Pikachu in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
