Lin-Manuel Miranda explains why Jay Leno is thanked in Mary Poppins Returns credits
Those who stuck around to watch the end credits of Mary Poppins Returns may have scratched their heads when they noticed Jay Leno was among those thanked. Now the film’s star Lin-Manuel Miranda has shared the extent of the former Tonight Show host’s involvement with the musical production.
After the topic was discussed on a recent episode of the podcast How Was Your Week With Julie Klausner, Miranda took note of a tweet referencing the episode and explained Leno’s contribution came in the form of a key sound effect.
“Apparently there is a car sound effect from the 1930’s that they could not replicate, and someone realized Jay Leno had the car they needed,” the Hamilton star posted. “To record the sound effect. There is your answer and hello.”
A known lover of cars, Leno has a vast collection of automobiles from various decades, including several from the 1930s. According to Odometer, the funnyman owns a 1930 Bentley G400, 1931 Duesenberg Model J Town Car, and 1936 Cord 812 Sedan.
An extensive look at Leno’s prized vehicles can be seen in a tour h gave CNN in 2016.
