See Taika Waititi as Hitler in first photo from World War II comedy Jojo Rabbit
Am I… attracted to Hitler?
It was the sexually confusing photograph seen ’round-the-world: Taika Waititi as an imaginary version of Adolf Hitler in the first photo released from the actor/director’s dark comedy, Jojo Rabbit.
The film follows a young boy, Jojo, in Nazi Germany who dreams of joining Hitler’s ranks (and who conjures the dictator as an imaginary friend) and then discovers that his mother is hiding a Jew in their home.
The Thor: Ragnorak director spoke to The Wrap about his role as “Hitler: “It’s my version of… a lonely boy’s best version of his hero, which is really his dad,” he said. According to a character description, this version of the dictator “glides through life with a childlike naivety.”
The film co-stars Scarlett Johansson, also in the still above, as Jojo’s mother, and Sam Rockwell as a Nazi captain.
Waititi had previously tweeted out a picture of himself in the Hitler uniform. “What better way to insult Hitler than having him portrayed by a Polynesian Jew?” he wrote.
