How many ideas did Danny McBride have for a continuation of the Halloween franchise when he got the job writing the screenplay for director David Gordon Green’s sequel (out Oct. 19)? A lot. In fact, when EW caught up with McBride on the set of the film earlier this year, the Eastbound & Down star revealed that he and Green came close to pitching a pair of new films.
“We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back,” said McBride, who co-wrote the Halloween script with Green and Jeff Fradley (Vice Principals). “Then we were like, Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like. So, we were like, Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t. But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it.”
Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis — returning her to iconic role as the Michael Myers-battling Laurie Strode — as well as Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, and Virginia Gardner.
