The Toni Collette-led film is released on June 8
In the horror movie Hereditary (out June 8), Toni Collette portrays a mother of two children (played by Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro) who is mourning the recent death of her own mom.
“I play a woman who’s almost like a mystery to herself,” the Australian actress shared with EW. “I think that her Mum raised her in a way that kept her in the dark about her own existence. She’s someone that knows there’s something wrong, but she’s blind to who she really is and the life she’s really living. She’s someone who needs a little bit of care, and is quite vulnerable and quite fragile, but there’s also a lot of anger. I guess the story reveals everything she’s ever wanted to know but it happens in a way that she wasn’t expecting and does not enjoy.”
All of which explains — well, sort of explains, anyway — why the film’s new trailer doubles as a reminder that this Sunday is Mother’s Day.
Hereditary is written and directed by Ari Aster and costars Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd. Watch the movie’s new trailer, above.
