'Star Wars' also shared a behind-the-scenes video from 'Solo' director Ron Howard
Are you fluent in Wookiee? Have you been practicing your Chewbacca roar since 1977? Well, does Disney have the social media challenge for you!
Ahead of the May 25 release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney has launched a new charity initiative as part of its Force for Change program, challenging fans to upload their best Chewie impression to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. For every public post tagged with the hashtag #RoarForChange from now through May 25, Force for Change will donate $1 to UNICEF to help supporting life-saving children’s programs around the world, for up to $1 million.
Star Wars also shared a behind-the-scenes video from Solo director Ron Howard, who introduces the challenge and teases a little bit about Chewie’s role in the upcoming spin-off movie. Joonas Suotamo plays Chewbacca in the new film, taking over the role from the original Chewie, Peter Mayhew.
“Without a doubt, this is Chewbacca’s best role ever,” Howard teases.
“Chewie is a complete diva,” adds Donald Glover, who plays Lando Calrissian.
Alden Ehrenreich stars in Solo as the titular smuggler, along with Glover, Suotamo, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Warwick Davis, and Paul Bettany.
Since launching in 2014, Force for Change has raised more than $16 million for charitable causes worldwide. Learn more about the #RoarForChange initiative at ForceForChange.com.
