Steven Spielberg confirms Colin Trevorrow will direct third Jurassic World
The man who rebooted Universal’s dinosaur franchise is coming back for its next installment.
“Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story,” executive producer Steven Spielberg exclusively tells EW. Spielberg will also return as an executive producer on the third World.
Trevorrow co-wrote and directed 2015’s Jurassic World, which went on to gross $1.67 billion worldwide. The writer-director also penned the script for the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with his original World co-writer Derek Connolly.
As previously announced, Trevorrow will collaborate with Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) on a script for the third World based off a story by Trevorrow and Connolly. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley will also be back for the upcoming World.
Fallen Kingdom is due in theaters June 22 and directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls). “It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive,” says Trevorrow. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”
