Before the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences names its picks for the best films and performances of the year at this weekend’s Oscars, the public is having its say in a new survey.

Fandango polled more than 7,000 moviegoers in the last few weeks of February about what should win at the 90th Academy Awards. The top pick for Best Picture was Guillermo del Toro’s modern fairy tale The Shape of Water, which received 19 percent of votes. It was followed closely behind by Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (17 percent), and Jordan Peele’s Get Out (16 percent).

Del Toro also came out a winner in the survey’s Best Director category, while the leading actor and actress awards went to awards-season favorites Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’s Frances McDormand and Darkest Hour’s Gary Oldman. The supporting actress category came down to a tie — I, Tonya star Allison Janney and The Shape of Water star Octavia Spencer — while supporting actor went to Three Billboards’ Sam Rockwell.

When asked about the impact of the Oscars on their moviegoing decisions, 87 percent of film fans said that Academy Award recognition made them more interested in seeing the nominated pictures, according to the survey.

See the full results of Fandango’s Oscar Moviegoer Survey below, and tune in to see who officially wins the awards when the Oscars telecast kicks off Sunday night on ABC.
