Incredibles 2 debuts new footage during the Olympics
“Parenting is a heroic act” in the latest TV spot for Pixar’s Incredibles 2, which debuted new footage during Wednesday night’s Olympics coverage on NBC.
Writer-director Brad Bird (who also voices the devastatingly fashionable Edna Mode) returns for the sequel, which picks up immediately after the original 2004 film. The new movie centers on Holly Hunter’s Helen (a.k.a. Elastigirl), as she finds herself in the middle of a “campaign to bring Supers back into the spotlight.” As for Bob (Craig T. Nelson), he’s at home, dealing with the dangers that come with caring for his three super-powered children: Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack.
“Helen’s appetite for adventure comes to the fore,” Hunter told EW in December. “Whereas before, she was driven to become Mrs. Incredible out of necessity, where she went into it to save her husband, I think this time she really meets her own ambition head-on. The ambition of being an adventure is something that we get to explore.”
Ahead of the Olympics spot, Disney and Pixar also shared three new teaser posters that highlight the occasional mundanity of life in a superhero household.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone is also returning, along with several newcomers: Bob Odenkirk as a telecommunications CEO named Winston Deaver, Catherine Keener as Winston’s brilliant sister Evelyn, Sophia Bush as an overeager Super named Voyd, and Isabella Rossellini as the mysterious Ambassador.
The Incredibles 2 will hit theaters June 15.
