The Art of Racing in the Rain

Milo Ventimiglia has another tearjerker on his hands. The This Is Us star is in talks to return to the big screen for the film adaptation of The Art of Racing in the Rain, EW has learned.

The original novel, which was published in 2008 from author Garth Stein, is told from the perspective of a family dog named Enzo as he reflects on lessons learned from his human owners. There’s Denny, a struggling race-car driver; Eve, Denny’s wife who’s struggling with brain cancer; and Zoë, their daughter.

Simon Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin) is directing The Art of Racing in the Rain, which Neal Moritz, Tania Landau, and Patrick Dempsey will produce.

The film was first picked up by Universal in 2009 before the project moved to Disney in 2016. Now, Fox 2000 will release the title.

This Is Us fans are still reeling from Ventimiglia’s latest performance as Jack Pearson on the NBC drama — and so is Crock-Pot. The actor has kept up with a number of film roles alongside his TV career, including parts in Devil’s Gate, Grace of Monaco, and Kiss of the Damned.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news.
