Deadpool loves taking his passion and making it happen
If there’s two things Deadpool likes, it’s making pop culture references and being a surprise success at the box office. The new poster for the Merc With a Mouth’s highly-anticipated sequel indulges both of those passions. It finds Deadpool posing with a chair in an homage to the famous scene from the 1983 hit Flashdance. Star Ryan Reynolds even made the parallel explicit by sharing the new poster to social media alongside the Flashdance tagline, “Take your passion and make it happen.” The only difference is, instead of water, Deadpool is being showered by a hail of bullets.
Flashdance opened in 1983 to mostly negative reviews, but went on to gross more than $200 million at the box office on a $7 million budget. In similar fashion, Deadpool was an uncertain bet when it opened, as an R-rated superhero movie with a $58 million budget. But like Flashdance, Deadpool resonated with audiences and grossed more than $700 million at the box office — and its success opened the door to other R-rated superhero movies like Logan.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters May 18. Check out the new poster below.
