New Kaiju beasties means new Jaegers, and the latest Pacific Rim Uprising trailer is chock-full of both. But there’s an additional threat that doesn’t come from beneath the sea or from another dimension — it comes from the pilots’ home turf.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s John Boyega goes from starships to Jaegers in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s monster-vs-robot smackdown. With Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil) at the helm this time, Boyega debuts as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost who must change his party-hard lifestyle when a new wave of Kaiju descend upon earth.

The problem, it seems, is that someone on earth has created a new portal to transport these monstrosities into their world. Could it be whoever is piloting the rogue Jaeger that’s hellbent on ripping the new Gipsy Avenger to pieces?

The Pacific Rim Uprising trailer, released Wednesday by Legendary Pictures, also features more footage of the new roster of Jaeger bots in action. There’s Guardian Bravo with the electrical whip, the speedster Saber Athena, and Titan Redeemer with the big ball and chain.

Jake also tries to find his version of Stacker’s “cancel the apocalypse,” but ends up with something more akin with Harry Potter’s “every great wizard” speech in The Order of the Phoenix: “There are pilots we remember as legends, but they didn’t start out that way. They started out like us.”

Pacific Rim Uprising will hit theaters on March 23. Watch the trailer above.
